St. Joseph Institute helps unlock language for children with a hearing impairment.

St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf-St. Louis serves children with hearing loss, preschool through eighth grade, with an auditory-oral education that includes academics, an intensive language curriculum and individualized speech therapy.
Deaf and hard of hearing boys with hearing aids and cochleaqr implants enjoying reading as part of their academic classes and learning to listen and speak with an auditory-oral education.

St. Joseph Institute is proud to have three academic accreditations- Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, North Central Accreditations (NCA) and Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). SJI is the only auditory-oral school to be ISACS accredited. These accreditations insure that our students receive a quality education in core subjects. These core subjects are supplemented by classes in computer, science labs, art, music and an accelerated reader program in the school library.

In addition to standard classroom requirements, each child receives daily individual speech, language and auditory therapy from either a speech/language pathologist or a certified teacher of the deaf.

All of these components allow the children at SJI to "close the language gap."
