Audition is the building block for language. Language - written
and oral - is the key to all academic learning. St. Joseph Institute
helps unlock language for children with a hearing impairment.
Our Programs
- Help children develop oral language and speech without the use
of sign language.
- Maximize a child's access to sound using hearing aids and cochlear
implants.
- Improve literacy levels through the auditory-oral method.
- Offer daily speech-language instruction or speech-language therapy
for every student.
- Offer children the best opportunity for mainstream education
and independent adult lives
- Accredited curriculum provides high standards for a quality
education for students pre-school to the 8th grade.
Auditory-Oral Approach
The auditory-oral approach is challenging and requires intensive
work by the children, teachers and parents alike. It takes expertise
and systematic effort to help children interpret and use the sounds
they hear after obtaining hearing aids or a cochlear implant to
develop spoken language. While progress comes rapidly for some children
and gradually for others, ultimately most students who complete
our program(s) succeed in mainstream schools.
