Preschool Program
The preschool program is individualized and consists of small group
play interactions and small group learning environments. The sequencing
of the preschool program is aligned with the students' developmental
stages of linguistic growth and students various interests. A multitude
of standardized checklists and inventories are utilized to track
language progress to ensure that each child is "closing the language
gap" with their hearing peers.
All students receive individualized educational and language programming
based on their specific strengths, needs and educational objectives.
Teachers emphasize the development of listening skills and spoken
language to enable students to express their thoughts and feelings.
Students learn to utilize their technology devices so that they
can listen to their peers through the use of residual hearing and/or
speech-reaching. Hearing peers are enrolled to help increase language
stimulation, natural play opportunities and to help prepare children
for future mainstream opportunities.
Language strategies in the preschool and Kindergarten include show
and tell, personal news, diaries, language experiences and a variety
of vocabulary building activities based on curricula areas. In addition,
families in the preschool are involved in Family Therapy sessions
to meet the needs of the family and the child.
