Pediatric Audiology Clinic
The St. Joseph Institute Pediatric Audiology Clinic offers audiology
services and assessments to students of SJI and members of the community.
SJI Pediatric Audiologists provide a full continuum of services
to children including:
- Tympanometry
- Pure tone audiometry
- Acoustic reflexes and reflex decay
- Otoacoustic emissions
- Speech understanding in quite and in noise
- Real ear measures
- Functional gain testing
- Cochlear implant counseling
- Cochlear implant evaluation
- Hearing aid and cochlear implant programming
- Hearing aid and cochlear implant supplies
The on-site pediatric audiology clinic is integrated into the education of each SJI student, ensuring that each child is "on the air" and that their listening equipment is operational and programmed for maximum effectiveness. The ability to listening is at the heart of the SJI service and education curriculum. Children with fluctuating or progressive impairments are seen as soon and as often needed to ensure optimal hearing capacity. The audiology clinic works in partnership with teachers, speech therapists and parents to develop each child's educational plan.
Audiologists monitor classroom noise levels and provide the children at no charge with FM systems to support their acoustic learning environment. The department also supports parents with consultations, in-service education, as well as tips in the maintenance of their child's devices.
The audiologists are authorized providers for state funded infant/toddler and school age programs, making these services eligible for many families' insurance coverage.
