Our Assessment Team Specializes in

  • Deaf education
  • Audiological Assessment
  • Speech Language Therapy
  • Educational Psychology

The team works closely with families to determine the necessary tests. Tests can begin with a full, two-day evaluation or families can choose from the following assessments:

  • Evaluation of speech, language, voice and auditory processing
  • Academic readiness
  • Learning disabilities
  • Psychological testing
  • Audiological evaluation and consultation
  • Diagnostic interview
  • Family consultation and interpretation of tests

All children are given a complete language, learning and psycho-educational evaluation as part of the admissions process.

Ongoing Assessments

Once enrolled at St. Joseph's Institute, each child's speech, language and audition development is assessed on a regular basis or as needed by the academic or counseling department. These formal and informal assessments guide development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Standard Tests

Each child entering SJI receives a cognitive, motor and intelligence test to assess academic potential, learning styles and any potential processing problems. Educational tests are administered again as the child prepares to leave St. Joseph Institute to help plan the transition to a mainstream school.

Residential Program Tests

Children entering the residential program receive temperamental assessments. The result enables staff and parents to design an individual living plan that helps the child adjust to residential life.

If a child struggles with emotional or behavioral problems, the counselor is available during the school day, evenings and weekends.
