Hundreds of families contact St. Joseph Institute each year for a comprehensive evaluation of their child's
cognitive ability, language development, speech, academic achievement and potential for success.
Our assessment
services are available for children with any degree of hearing loss, as well
as hearing children with suspected language delays. We specialize in the
evaluation of children with language-based learning differences.
The team works closely with families to determine the necessary tests. Testing begins with a full, two-day evaluation or families can choose from the following assessments:
- Assessing progress in language development and academic
skills
- Determining whether a child has learning or processing
problems that are affecting the acquisition of language and/or academic
skills
- Determining the most appropriate educational program
and services, including secondary school and college
- Providing recommendations for teaching approaches and
support services in the child's current placement
Our Assessment Team includes a psychologist,
speech and language therapist and certified educational specialist.
Audiological evaluation is also available as part of a comprehensive
assessment. The team works closely
with families and current teachers to identify specific referral questions
and to determine the scope of the evaluation. Testing usually takes place
over two days. Parents meet with the evaluation team to discuss the
student's history, current educational placement and any concerns that
need to be addressed in the evaluation. The child is then seen by the
appropriate professionals. At the conclusion of the evaluation, the team
and parents meet once more to discuss the results and recommendations.
This is followed by an in-depth report.
