The diagnosis of an infant's hearing loss is difficult for parents and
families. The Molloy Family Center offers a warm, supportive atmosphere where parents learn about their child's hearing loss and how it will impact the family.
As we support parents through this challenge, we guide them in their role as a child's first and most important teachers of language. Deaf Education Therapists specializing in early intervention provide individual sessions for children, newborn through age six, even after they have mainstreamed into neighborhood schools.
Since our focus is on the specific needs of the family, one hour private sessions take place in the family home or other appropriate setting once or twice a week.
The Molloy Family Center at SJI is dedicated to the development of the whole child. Children age two engage in daily toddler classes that encourage growth in listening, spoken language, cognitive, social, motor and self-help skills. Hearing peers are enrolled in class to help prepare children with hearing impairments for future mainstream settings, increase language stimulation and provide natural play settings in small groups. Families with children in the toddler class also continue to meet for private sessions.
