Audiology
The Hearing Enrichment Language Program utilizes a team approach for children's' audiological needs. A pediatric staff audiologist closely monitors hearing sensitivity, hearing aid, and FM status and ensures both appropriate and aggressive management. Because an audiologist is a member of the team, we can openly communicate audiological concerns about the child in both a functional and test environment. HELP is involved and also works in a team approach with the audiologist to determine cochlear implant candidacy, programming the speech processor for the cochlear implant, and documenting progress in both a subjective and objective manner. The HELP staff is trained to trouble shoot hearing aids, FM units, and cochlear implants. Sound-field FM systems are used in each of the preschool classrooms. The HELP team works closely with other audiologists in the community who might be following children in the program and provides classroom in-service for teachers and staff (of children in our program that enter a classroom in which the teacher is unfamiliar with trouble shooting hearing aids, FM units, and or cochlear implants).
