Programs
The
Kansas City Campus is pleased to partner with local professional
groups such as MidWest Ear Institute, University of Kansas Medical
Center and Children's Mercy Hospital for audiologic services. On-site
cochlear implant mapping is available through a pilot program at
the school through MidWest Ear Institute.
Cochlear implants offer deaf individuals new auditory access to
sounds that were previously unavailable to them through conventional
and digital hearing aids. The availability of post-surgical rehabilitation
programming for newly implanted individuals is essential. Our staff
has the expertise to assist children and adults in learning to decode
new sounds and to use them for learning language and monitoring
speech.
All children enrolled in the academic program receive thirty minutes
of individual speech-language therapy daily. Individual speech-language
therapy is available on an outpatient basis for children and adults
with hearing loss.
