Giving children a chance to talk, converse and communicate prepares them to attend and excel in their neighborhood schools, and ultimately lead fulfilling, independent lives.

St. Joseph Institute–Indianapolis (SJI-I) is a regional campus of the St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf system. A variety of programming, including early intervention, preschool and school-age support focuses on the development of spoken and written language skills in children with hearing loss.

SJI-I staff includes teachers and speech language pathologists with advanced degrees and many years of experience. Family involvement is both welcome and encouraged.

The program is based in an open, child-friendly facility on the north side of Indianapolis. SJI-I offers preschool and kindergarten classes for both children with hearing loss and hearing children. All children can benefit from the strong language-rich preschool curriculum through the Early Childhood Center. Early intervention sessions for children birth to age three are typically conducted in the child's home and SJI-I professionals travel to area public and private schools to work with mainstreamed hearing impaired children.
