Educational Programs
St.
Joseph Institute for the Deaf at Carle offers a variety of educational
programs for children with hearing loss and their families. St.
Joseph Institute at Carle takes a family centered approach to teaching
children. We know parents are a child's first and most important
teachers. Our staff helps parents fulfill that role by educating
them to use classroom and therapy techniques at home, providing
information about their child's development and encouraging parents
to attend sessions with their child. We also provide support for
families as they cope with the normal range of emotions and demands
accompanying their child's diagnosis and special needs. Daily exchange
of information between parents, teachers, and therapists, bi-annual
parent-teacher conferences, and a parent lending library are some
of the resources we offer to support our families. In addition,
our families have created a parent group that provides a forum for
parents to meet and interact with other children with hearing loss.
Currently, we offer parent-infant and toddler services as well as
a preschool program.
