Carle ECHO Program
Clinical services at St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf at Carle
are offered through the Carle ECHO program. Expanding Children's
Hearing Opportunities (ECHO) combines a uniquely talented team of
an otologist, audiologist, speech/language pathologists, and educators
of children with hearing loss into one of the nation's finest teams
for identifying and treating children with hearing loss.
Our focus on close follow-up and education, as well as our experience
with very young children and children with congenital anomalies,
draws families not only from the entire state of Illinois, but also
the eastern half of the country. Led by Michael A. Novak, MD, a
Carle otologist, the ECHO program provides direct services to children,
such as: hearing loss diagnosis; hearing aid fitting; cochlear implant
evaluation and programming; medical intervention; development of
an appropriate treatment plan; speech, language and listening therapy;
and consultative services to schools and professionals working with
children with hearing loss.
