St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf is an independent, private, day and residential Catholic school serving severely and profoundly hearing-impaired children without regard to race, religion or gender. It is one of two day and residential auditory-oral schools in the United States.

The main campus in suburban St. Louis serves children from birth through 8th grade and has an on-site audiology clinic serving children and adults. In addition, St. Joseph Institute operates programs in Kansas City and Indianapolis and is affiliated with programs in Oklahoma City and at Carle in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois for children from birth to age six. The residential program serves hearing-impaired children who come from many cities in the United States and around the world where no appropriate programs or auditory-oral schools exist.
