Our auditory-oral specialists have expertise in helping babies and toddlers develop a foundation for language development.Typically, these professionals work in a family’s home or another natural environment for the child, once or twice a week.Often, these sessions
are funded through the state-administered First Steps program as early
intervention services.
SJI-I helps parent learn about their child’s hearing loss, how it will affect their family, and the options for communication and education.Parents are encouraged to attend play-group sessions and parent education meetings to meet with other families and increase their knowledge. When children are ready to transition to preschool, the staff develops a plan with the family to decide whether the child will attend preschool at SJI-I, at the public school, or any other options the family .
